Learning for everyone
At Webster Associates one of the advantages of our family learning projects is that the kids aren’t the only ones who learn new things.
Adults can also get a great deal out of our design and technology based workshops. Read on to discover the benefits your family could enjoy.
Young children
Our design and technology workshops are designed to help younger children develop manipulative, language and social skills. They get the chance to explore the properties of materials and may even be able to play with the more complex models produced by their older siblings.
Older children
Not only do older children gain confidence in describing and using electrical and mechanical components but they are encouraged to explain their design ideas, expand their creative flair and improve basic skills such as mathematical accuracy.
The fun, relaxed environment, means that the children don’t even realise that they are learning valuable skills by problem-solving, meeting deadlines and sharing knowledge.
Adults
As for the adults, it gives them a chance to spend time with their children and contribute to their education. We’ve also discovered that many adults benefit from increased confidence and self-esteem as a result of our design and technology based workshops.
Students as mentors
Sixth form and higher education students are encouraged to act as mentors to family groups. This helps them to develop their own teaching skills and has the added advantage of giving parents and carers of larger family groups additional help and support during the workshops. |
