For the past 30 years we have been providing our clients with structurally sound and innovative solutions to the problem of making sure that their heirs receive the maximum amount of money with the minimum amount of inheritance tax. Working with approaches that are acceptable to HMRC and that have been tried and tested over time we have impacted positively across our clients estates.
The last thing any client needs is to put in place solutions that will attract the ire of HMRC. Getting on the wrong side of the revenue only results in expensive court cases. That is why we use well established methods that are acceptable to the revenue and result in our clients having the peace of mind that the benefits they receive will not result in a dispute with the revenue.
At the same time as looking to reduce tax liabilities through acceptable schemes we are also always concerned to ensure that we are meeting our clients requirements for tax efficient income and capital growth. The avoidance of inheritance tax is not mutually exclusive to having a good investment that provides decent tax-free income.
There are many ways that we can use to achieve more efficient and more valuable estates. Often we may use multiple solutions in providing the overall impact that we are looking for. As the age group that starts considering inheritance tax tends to be either retired or close to retirement the consideration of things such as income and capital access are an important part of the whole retirement package so we have to provide a balanced approach to weighing up the benefits of tax mitigation against the requirements of our client for a comfortable retirement. The encouraging thing is that we can do both of these things at the same time.
Our advisers would be delighted to assist you in securing the financial future.

The value of an investment with St. James’s Place will be directly linked to the performance of the funds you select and the value can therefore go down as well as up. You may get back less than you invested.
The levels and bases of taxation, and reliefs from taxation, can change at any time. The value of any tax relief is dependent on individual circumstances.
Apart from the emotional cost, arranging care for yourself or a loved one is also extremely complicated. Dealing with issues like mental capacity, eligibility for state benefits, Lasting or Enduring Powers of Attorney*, the type and location of the care home and funding the care itself causes stress and worry. But government estimates suggest one in seven will face care costs above £100,000 with no current way to protect themselves against the risk, undermining their ability to put formal plans into place.
In mid-2022 there were 1.7 million people aged 85 years and over, making up 2.5% of the population. By mid-2047, this is projected to have nearly doubled to 3.3 million, representing 4.3% of the total UK population.
The average weekly cost of living in a residential care home is £1,406, while the average nursing home cost is £1,558per week. Data shows that annual residential care home fees cost around £73,000, while nursing care costs around £81,000 per year. If nursing is required and with the average stay at about three years, the costs are substantial. ***
If you need care, and have to fund the fees yourself, there are many things that you will need to consider. Not only will it be important that you receive care in a home you have chosen, you will also need to consider whether you can afford to pay the fees for as long as is needed. You may also wish to protect your wealth so that some inheritance may be passed on to the next generation.
